I recently completed my final preceptorship at Barrhead Healthcare Centre in the Emergency room. This consisted of 245 hours of work. Tasks and responsibilities include: critical thinking and problem solving, time management, organizational skills, focused and head to toe assessments, medication administration, IV starts, assisted/observed iron infusion and blood transfusions, collaborating with other members of the healthcare team, utilizing the nursing process.

During my time at Royal Alex, I completed 290 hours on units 51 (medicine) and 24 (surgery). Tasks and responsibilities included: connect care training/charting, head to toe and focused assessments, patient teaching, patient discharge, medication administration, post mortem care, and skills within LPN scope such as wound care, catheter insertion and removal, IV starts and more.

I completed 145 hours on unit 2AB for my long term care clinical. This included: observing and assessing patients to identify concerning symptoms, medication administration, blood glucose monitoring, dressing changes, bed baths, perineal care, assisting other students and members of the healthcare team, and building meaningful relationships with patients and families for optimal care.

• Mixed and administered special food formulas to individual animals based on unique dietary needs.
• Recorded dogs' intake and output, physical condition and behavior for updated kennel logs.
• Cleaned and maintained kennel areas for optimized hygiene, including cages, runs and yards.
• Minimized animal injury risk by monitoring behaviors and eliminating safety hazards.

• Provided customer support to clients, answering questions and addressing concerns.
• Positioned animals for diagnostic imaging such as x-rays and scans.
• Cleaned and disinfected exam areas, surgical equipment, and kennels to prevent diseases and control odors.
• Assisted other members of the team when asked.
• Assisted with euthanasia procedures in humanely and compassionately to minimize suffering.
• Helped with training of new veterinary assistants and support staff to improve individuals' capabilities.
• Restrained animals for examination and treatment.
