The Site Manager is an integral member of both the clinical and non-clinical management teams in our acute care facilities. The Site Manager upholds the SHA vision, mission, and values. In the absence of the daily management staff, they operate and function as the manager and are required to make timely and critical decisions to ensure the safety of patients, families, and staff. In order to achieve continuity of care and leadership, the site manager team works in collaboration with the managers of the teams they support.
The Site Manager team supports the Royal University Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital and Saskatoon City Hospital. We aim to provide coverage to all three hospitals, as per the schedule below. However, there are times when we experience unexpected absences, and we may have to ask the manager on call to provide support prior to 10:00 p.m.
Evening and weekend site manager roles and responsibilities are to:
1. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to all clinical and non-clinical areas at each hospital.
2. Assess staffing needs and workload on each shift, and, when necessary, reassign staff to ensure the provision of safe care and appropriate use of resources. It is important to note that decisions are made based on the needs of the entire building, while also considering the needs of the individual unit or department.
3. Identify, facilitate, and support system flow opportunities while working with System Flow, CPAS, and unit charge nurses.
4. Work together with individuals and teams to provide interpretation of policies and procedures, to ensure a safe environment for patients, families, and staff.
5. Assist in resolving a conflict among employees, and collaborate on a resolution in real time.
6. Coordinate confidential investigations related to unusual occurrences, errors, and potential or actual injuries to patients or staff, and document accordingly.
7. Respond to queries, whether non-urgent, urgent, or emergent in nature, in any or all areas of the facility while providing support for problem-solving, decision-making, and also direction as needed.
8. Implement emergency preparedness protocols, and document events.
9. The Site Manager is a manager, and therefore operates and functions as such in the absence of the unit/dept. manager.
Creates and maintains staff schedules while adhering to collective bargaining agreements and replaces staff as required. Provides functional guidance and technical directions to Scheduling Department staff and managers.
