At present I work in the Mental Health Unit as a Mental Health Officer at Kent Institution. My role as a Mental Health Officer consists of running a pro-social therapeutic group where the offenders have a safe space to work on various activities and hobbies that improve their mental health . Before accepting my current position in mental health I worked in the programs department as a Social Programs Officer. My role largely consisted of acting as a liaison between offenders, staff and community partners. Prior to pursuing a career with the Correctional Service of Canada, I worked in the medical field for 16 years as a Medical lab assistant/phlebotomist performing blood draws and Electrocardiograms as well as electronically processing samples and specimens in the accessioning area of the lab. I worked mainly on call in the Emergency room and the Intensive Care Unit. Working in the hospital and those two units specifically has conditioned me to be able to work well in challenging and stressful situations. In addition, I worked with many patients with varying levels of mental and physical limitations and difficulties
