Aiming to pursue a career in surgery, I am an incoming second-year kinesiology pre-medical student at the University of Waterloo. Offering a solid foundation in healthcare principles, I bring a basic understanding of medical terminology and patient care procedures. With strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, I’m eager to contribute and grow in a clinical environment, leveraging my experience in observation and leadership.
Working as a residence ambassador, giving tours of the residences on campus to prospective students was a very valuable experience. Not only did it help build my self-esteem, but it also improved my communication skills and boosted my confidence in social interactions.
I witnessed small operations, including echo-guided needle procedures, and observed patient interactions, which deepened my understanding of healthcare practices and the responsibilities of an orthopedic surgeon.
I observed and attended sales meetings, gaining insight into the corporate structure and operations of a large company. This experience helped me understand how business discussions are conducted, the decision-making processes within corporations, and the daily pressures and stresses associated with business roles.
