As a Wildlife Safety Response Officer located in Cranbrook, my main objective was to perform the groundwork for managing the Chronic Wasting Disease response program located in the City of Cranbrook and the surrounding area. I was responsible for collecting specimens to be sampled and taking samples from the specimens to be sent to labs in British Columbia. Other duties I was responsible for were contacting and coordinating with other ministry staff to help streamline the collection and sampling process, purchasing needed equipment, organizing and managing my schedule and time to most efficiently collect specimens, maintain officer notes of my daily activities, and submitting weekly logs to my supervisors and stakeholders to ensure objectives were being met through my activities.
