I am seeking the indeterminate position of Chief of Operations within the CBSA. I began performed the duties of a Canada Border Services Officer in 2009 and performed all the responsibilities at a high level. I began acting as a Canada Border Services Superintendent position in 2014 and later became an indeterminate Superintendent in 2019. I performed all of the responsibilities required as a Superintendent at a high level. Beginning in early 2021, I starting as the Acting Chief of Operations in the St. Stephen area responsible for three ports of entry. I have performed all responsibilities required of this Chiefs position at a high level that is reflected in my Performance management reviews.
Over the past two years I have been the Acting Chief in the St. Stephen area responsible for managing 11 superintendents, 80 Border services officers, and 4 clerical staff. I have been responsible for performance management, Program oversight, and enforcement related activities. I have also been responsible for maintaining the budgets for thee POE’s as well as performing several staffing actions to ensure the success of fulfilling the mandate.
I have proven myself over the past eleven years within the agency to be dependable and hardworking. I have also shown to be eager to learn new skills and have the ability to work well within a group. I have a positive attitude towards the agency and hope to be lead a management team to promote such an attitude within the workplace. I have an excellent ability to deal with difficult people and situations that I feel would be an asset in the chiefs position. I am also able to maintain all the conditions of employment required for the chief position. I have only held a permanent position as a superintendent for the past year but I acted as a superintendent in the St. Stephen area for the previous five years while achieving positive results. I have been the administrative superintendent at Ferry Point for the past five years being responsible for scheduling, accommodations, OIDP reviews and responsibilities of an operational superintendent as well.
Facilitation of goods and persons exiting and entering Canada. I have been responsible for all duties that are required of a Canada Border Services officer at the Ferry Point port of entry and Milltown port of entry in St. Stephen N.B. during the time as an officer. I have been involved in all aspects of customs including enforcing the customs act as well as FPA regulations. I have been involved in a number of arrests for Customs act violations as well Criminal code offences. I have also been involved in all aspects of immigration and have been responsible for enforcing the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. I am a minister’s delegate and have been responsible for reviewing A44 reports and issuing removal orders.
