Hello and welcome to my online portfolio! My name is Aamna Siddiqui and I am a projected graduate of Humber College's TESL program. I am a results oriented professional with previous teaching experience, and am experienced with creating immersive and interactive ESL lesson plans tailored to diverse learning needs. I enjoy utilizing innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement and retention. As an instructor, I make sure to meet my students at their level and needs to ensure a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes language development.
As an ESL instructor, I strongly believe in the phrase “be a student of your students.” Every English learner brings a unique combination of cultural background, educational experience, and individual learning needs. Understanding these differences allows me to tailor my instruction and create meaningful learning experiences. I believe that all students can succeed when they are provided with the appropriate support and opportunities to grow. My teaching approach is grounded in creating a supportive, student-centered environment where learners feel comfortable taking risks.
Language acquisition requires confidence, and I encourage students to view mistakes as a natural and valuable part of the learning process. By fostering a safe and inclusive classroom, I help students build both their skills and their self-assurance. I emphasize the integration of the four core language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—within authentic and purposeful contexts. Rather than teaching language in isolation, I design activities that promote real communication and connect to students’ goals and everyday experiences. This approach helps learners develop practical proficiency while staying engaged and motivated. Scaffolding is central to my instruction. I use strategies such as modeling, visual supports, guided practice, and structured language frames to gradually build student independence. Through ongoing formative assessment and feedback, I adapt my teaching to meet learners where they are and support their continued progress. Ultimately, my goal is to empower students with the language skills and confidence they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
