Details of Work Experience

1. 2023-24: MEDICAL OFFICER IN RURAL INDIA

     Work Hours: 54 hours/ week

  • Provided preventative care, including screening and treatment for non-communicable diseases.
  • Managed a patient load of 80-100 individuals per day
  • Provided prenatal care once a week for 30-40 mothers and monitored antenatal mothers for complications.
  • Conducted hospital around 2-3 deliveries per month for non-complicated, multigravida mothers.
  • Managed common conditions in children and refereed to secondary care where needed. 20-30 children were evaluated everyday.
  • Handled once-a-week 24-hour emergency duty shifts including Myocardial infarction, Snake bites, Scorpion bites etc.


2. 2019-23: ENT RESIDENCY

 Institution Overview:

  • Madras Medical College, India
  • Established in 1972, the ENT department is a tertiary referral center with high volume patient load.


 Outpatient Management:

  • Managed 20–30 patients per day in OPD sessions, conducting comprehensive history-taking and clinical examinations.
  • Proficient in diagnostic nasal endoscopy and videolaryngoscopy for evaluating and managing ENT conditions.
  • Gained extensive experience in managing a wide spectrum of ENT conditions,ranging from common infections to rare conditions like Juvenille Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, Otosclerosis, rare tumours of Head and Neck etc.


Surgical Expertise:

  • Independently performed procedures including adenotonsillectomy, septal correction, functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), elective and emergency tracheostomy, microlaryngeal examination and biopsy, and endoscopic tympanoplasty.
  • Assisted in advanced surgeries such as total laryngectomy, thyroidectomy, maxillectomy, neck dissection, and airway procedures (injection laryngoplasty, Kashima’s procedure).
  • Experience in ear surgeries, including cortical and modified radical mastoidectomy, Stepedotomy and cochlear implantation.


Emergency Management:

  • Trained in handling stridor, epistaxis, foreign body removal, septal abscesses, and deep neck space infections, ensuring timely diagnosis and effective treatment.


Inpatient Care:

  • Experienced in managing postoperative patients, from daycare procedures to complex head and neck surgeries.
  • Managed long-term cases, including patients with necrotizing otitis externa.


Post-COVID Mucormycosis:

  • Actively involved in the management of 900+ cases of mucormycosis at the institution. Provided long-term follow-up until prosthesis placement.
  • Performed and monitored 50+ nasal debridement procedures while patients were on Amphotericin therapy.
  • Closely followed cases of cerebral mucormycosis, including fungal brain abscesses, forming the foundation of my dissertation research.


3. 2017-19: MEDICAL OFFICER IN SUBURBAN INDIA

Work Hours: 64 hours/ week

  • Served as the acting Medical Superintendent.
  • Oversaw administrative tasks, including nurse duty rosters, financial management, salary allotments, and leave approvals.
  • Provided preventative care for non-communicable diseases 50-60 adult patients per day.
  • Treated common infectious conditions 90-100 Outpatients per day.
  • Independently prescribed lab investigations and treated accordingly.
  • Managed wound care and dressings for 20 diabetic foot patients who visited regularly.
  • Performed suturing for minor injuries.


4. 2016-17: INTERNSHIP
