  • Was hired to expand marine propulsion engines and generator set sales to commercial vessels and pleasure yachts . Area of responsibility was Western Canada, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Vancouver Island, and lower Mainland in BC.
  • With my road sales, I was always looking for servicing and scheduled maintenance opportunities along with finding new engine and generator set sales.
  • Established marine dealers to handle our products.
  • With technical knowledge and support of our shop, I was able to make recommendations to help customer meet their needs. In time I specialized supplying marine generator sets that can both run hydraulics and generate electrical power primarily for coastal towboats and ship assist vessels.
  • Customers is what keeps the sales, service, parts going so building relationships was paramount.
  • I have extensive experience introducing new products to market.
  • I like to think I'm very good at fixing problems, When mistakes are made I will work relentlessly to get back on track.

Marine Sales

  • Manufactured marine propulsion azimuth drives primarily for small work boats working around saw mills in BC and Washington State. Very limited market.
  • We did market our Drives to Disney World in Florida used in vessels to transport people around Disney park. Our drives are also used in Fort Lauderdale in water taxi's travelling around canals.
  • When our forest industry was experiencing tough times, I elected to leave Olympic Drives and join Frontier Power Products Ltd.

  • First 14 years I looked after all sales and servicing of Webasto diesel air and hot water heaters. Our marketed was trucking, bus, off road and forest equipment, and marine markets. Our territory included Western Canada and for marine included west coast of North America.
  • When I started sales were low. I was able to build sales to $ 2.5 million over 14 years. Webasto decided to open their own offices in North America and took over all Marketing. Summer Equipment was no longer involved.
  • Following Webasto Summer Equipment had bought and was manufacturing Wagner Marine Hydraulic Steering, Markets included, fishing, tugboats, ferries and pleasure boats and was marketed world wide.
  • To learn Wagner's product line, I started in our shop. I learned about our manufacturing process, assemblies and how systems are put together and how they worked. This was important to learn so I would be able to put proposals together
  • From our shop I moved to our sales department and worked with our application engineering that prepared proposals to our customers. I had to learn to do torque calculations of rudders to size hydraulic cylinders to move rudders at different rudder angles. From this, I learned about helm pumps for manual steering and how to build power steering system to reduce wheel turns.
  • After about two years I took over sales and started doing all road sales travelling North America.
  • I stayed in this positioned until Summer Equipment sold Wagner steering To Jastram Engineering in North Vancouver BC in 2005.
  • I went on to Join Olympic Drives where I stayed for 5 years

Road Sales

Faucher Industries.

Hired as another road salesmen. Faucher has branches across Canada and my territory was half of BC.

Product line was industrial and truck hardware. The other salesmen was much older than I was and he took me under his wing. I was taught about the product lines and dealing with customers and living as a road salesmen.

Excellent company and good working conditions and was given bonuses. I was hungry for more technical type of sales. I moved onto Summer Equipment Ltd.

  • Went after property agents to cut lawns for apartment blocks in Vancouver, BC.
  • We were given work in the off season when renovating apartments and offices. Our work entailed demolition work and clean up. This helped us through winter months.
  • We were very reliable and days were long. Excellent experience learning to find work and dealing with people.

Boating

I have a 42' Uniflite Aft cabin power boat. The vessel is twin screw with 6-71N Detroit engines. My wife and I cruise to Desolation Sound, Sunshine Coast and our Gulf Islands. I have lots of boating experience over the years with different vessels. I have taken many power squadron courses in navigation and radar use. I pride myself that I'm capable to do most of my electrical and mechanical work. I have a resource of people that I call on every 300 hours of operation for valve sets etc and checking over the engines with me and learn what they are looking for. Electrical I have done mostly myself with many upgrades. I work with my electrical suppliers and contacts and they check my drawings and sketches before I do the work. My boat is my hoby and keeps me sharp in knowledge and expedience.
